Our Curriculum

Our Curriculum

Our curriculum is designed to prepare your child for their next educational step and a bright future. We have two phases, Fireflies® and Buttercups®*,  to our program meeting the needs of your child from 6 months to 5 years, preparing them every step for kindergarten and beyond.

Fireflies®
The Fireflies® program, which is our pre-school curriculum for children ages 2-5 year, consists of month long learning and activities centered around three themes. Those themes change monthly and reinforce targeted learning goals and objectives.

Our CurriculumWith those educational goals and objectives in mind, teachers select from daily activities suited to enhance growth and school readiness for our early learners. The Fireflies activities are built around seven developmental domains, Social/ Emotional Development, Approaches to Learning, Language/Literacy, Creative Arts, Physical Development/Health, Science, and Math.

The Fireflies® curriculum is designed to be open-ended and flexible. The curriculum provides ideas that teachers can implement to insure developmental appropriateness. To a great extent, each teacher determines how the program is used in their particular setting. The daily activities provide learning opportunities for children with various developmental needs, experiences, and diverse cultures. Activities and assessment materials are aligned with early learning standards.

In simple terms, Developmentally Appropriate Practice means that activities and programs take Our Curriculuminto account what each child is ready for. Developmentally appropriate for ages 2 - 5 means that children should be offered a range of opportunities to interact with their environment. Practices that take into account the developmental readiness of each child can boost self confidence and independent thinking.

Children are also provided opportunities for individual expression, and are able to practice decision-making and problem solving. This type of environment promotes skills and discipline, inspires creativity, encourages flexibility, and provides for emotional release. As parents, you can support developmental appropriateness by following the lead of your child’s teacher. Be supportive and involved in your child’s efforts! Also, remember that children can accomplish many things without you seeing a specific project each day.

Buttercups®
While based on the same basic curriculum our Buttercups program is adaptable for children ages 6 months - 24 months.Self Discovery at Bright Beginnings The daily activities offer interactive fun to develop gross and fine motor skills, as well as provide music, language, art, cognitive, social, and sensory experiences.

Buttercups®Since infants and toddlers learn best when they are able to repeat activities often, Buttercups lessons are organized in a weekly format. Your child’s teacher chooses from a variety of activities each week that cover four broad learning domains - Language, Cognitive, Social/Emotional, and Physical. All the activities are designed to help children develop lifelong Approaches to Learning, such as curiosity, persistence, and problem solving. The teacher may repeat the activities throughout the week or even longer if interest stays strong or they feel it will be beneficial.
